Have you been looking for natural cleaners for home use that are safer than what is typically marketed as “green” in the stores? While many cleaners may be labeled “green,” many of them still have concerning ingredients. If you are looking for a nontoxic, safe cleaner that is tough enough to kill serious germs, mold, odors, and even remove stains, Force of Nature cleaner may be exactly what you’re looking for.

Force of Nature cleaner uses just water, vinegar, and salt to create a cleaning agent as effective as bleach. It may seem too good to be true, but with the Force of Nature cleaning system, you can use just those three ingredients to create electrolyzed water; a cleaning agent that is 100{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} safe.

More and more people are looking for simplified, non-toxic home cleaners that they feel comfortable using around kids, pets, and themselves.

Not only do conventional cleaners have strong odors that can make people ill, but they are also full of harsh ingredients that can aggravate allergies and asthma, and even give chemical burns.

Many of the chemicals in conventional cleaners are also linked to long-term problems, such as cancer, fertility issues, and neurological issues.

It’s no wonder people are looking for alternative cleaning options!

Force of Nature has been a perfect solution for our home.

It’s really important to me I find a system that gets my house clean as quickly and easily as possible. I don’t have a lot of time (or the desire!) to spend hours scrubbing away at things.

The Force of Nature cleaning system is one of the most multi-purpose cleaners for almost every surface. It is a cleaner that is fierce enough to kill viruses, bacteria, salmonella, mold and mildew, but also gentle enough to allow your kids to use, and for use on surfaces on which you prepare food.

Update October 2019:  You can learn all about Force of Nature in this post, but check out my post on the Force of Nature redesign to see what’s different now. Also, check out the end of this post for an AWESOME promo code!

Update March 2020: Force of Nature can be used on hard, non-porous surfaces against COVID-19! See here for more info.

What Is Force of Nature?

Force of Nature is a cleaning appliance that creates an effective cleaning solution using water and capsules of vinegar & salt. It comes with a charging station, a bottle to use on that charging station, and a spray bottle. You fill the bottle with water, add the contents of one capsule, and put it on the charger to electrolyze. Here to see a video I made showing how you create the solution.

This cleaner can work on virtually any surface, which is awesome! I know many of my store-bought green cleaners recommend that they not be used on porous surfaces, so this is a plus. It is safe to be used on surfaces that handle food (like cutting boards or counters) and even pacifiers.

How Does It Work?

Force of Nature works by converting three simple ingredients (water, salt, and vinegar) into two gentle and non-toxic cleaning agents: hypochlorous acid and sodium hydroxide, which are safe and extremely effective. These two agents kill up to 99.9{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} of bacteria and viruses on any surface. Here is a video explaining the science:

Force of Nature does not have any added fragrances, but there is a slight “clean” scent–think of a well-kept swimming pool.

You might get a whiff of a clean chlorine-like smell, but it is not strong at all. I actually find it quite pleasant. I can smell it when I’m in the midst of cleaning, but as soon as I wipe it away, the scent is gone. It does not linger for hours like other strong cleaners.

This is one thing I love about it–the clean smell!

Uses

deodorizing-shoes-with-force-of-natureForce of Nature can be used to do almost anything you need it to do. It is great for:

  • A multi-purpose cleaner, such as wiping down the kitchen counters after preparing dinner
  • Bathroom cleaner (even for showers and tubs!)
  • A disinfectant after someone is sick in the house, or after dealing with raw meat
  • Removing stains from carpet
  • Attacking mold
  • Deodorizing shoes, rugs, & garbage cans
  • Removing grease
  • Pet accidents on rugs
  • Soap scum
  • Glass and stainless steel
  • Floors (including tile, laminate, wood, & carpet)

Imagine having ONE cleaner to do all of these things! Here are 20 more unexpected uses. You can save a lot of money in the long run. Like I said before, I love my microfiber cloths, but I can’t use them to deodorize my sneakers or clean up pet accidents.

Why Choose Force of Nature?

Force of Nature
Some people might be curious about the following: if Force of Nature is just water, vinegar, and salt, why should I spend money on that? Why can’t I just make my own homemade cleaners with vinegar and maybe add essential oils?

Well, you can make your own cleaners if you wish, but here is the advantage that Force of Nature has over homemade vinegar cleaners:

Vinegar, while natural, can actually be somewhat harsh. It can cause burns to the eyes and esophagus, especially if not diluted properly, so you need to be a little more careful with it around children. It can also damage stone surfaces, like granite, quartz, and marble, and can corrode other surfaces (such as grout) over time.

Lastly, vinegar is not a disinfectant or a sanitizer. Many people think it is, but it cannot kill strong bacteria.

Independent Ratings

Force of Nature is EPA registered as a disinfectant and sanitizer. Third-party lab testing results indicated that Force of Nature not just performed as well, but better than many of the leading conventional cleaning brands for soap scum, carpet stains, deodorizing, degreasing, and many other types of messes. You can see the results of the third-party lab testing for yourself by clicking here.

Force of Nature has also received the highest rating by the Mayo Clinic’s product rating scale for skin allergies and irritants called SkinSafe. Click here for more details on Force of Nature’s SkinSafe rating.

Pros and Cons

I have been using this cleaner for a bit now, and I’d love to share with you the pros and cons of this device:

Pros:

  • 100{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} safe–no toxic chemicals, no added fragrances, no dyes, no irritants of any kind.
  • Can be used freely around kids and pets.
  • Cleans almost ANY type of mess, stain, or odor.
  • Easy to use.
  • Saves money over the long run (averages $0.07/ounce).
  • Has top ratings on the Mayo Clinic’s SkinSafe scale and is registered with the EPA.
  • A very mild, but pleasant & pure scent that does not overpower or linger.
  • Disinfects 99.9{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} of germs, including bacteria, viruses, norovirus, salmonella, listeria, staph, MRSA, and influenza A.
  • Deodorizes shoes (a big deal in this house!)

Cons:

  • One bottle of solution (water + one capsule) only lasts for 2 weeks. That is because it weakens over time and loses efficacy. However, the bottle is smaller than an average store-bought bottle of cleaner, so you move through it faster, and I have not found waste to be an issue (this was something I was worried about that kept me from buying it for a while, but now that I’m using it, I realized that it doesn’t make too much at one time).
  • It can clean dirt and grime off stainless steel and windows, but it can leave streaks so I like to follow those jobs up with a microfiber cloth to make them shiny.
  • Some may be turned off at the initial price of the appliance. (Tip: Go to the Force of Nature website and sign up for their newsletter to receive a coupon code. You can find the email signup on almost every page. You should see the orange sign up box at the bottom of the page I link. It may also be on the sidebar on some pages).

Force of Nature vs Norwex

Norwex is another safe, healthy cleaning system that relies on the power of microfiber and the use of BacLock (a silver-based antibacterial agent).

love Norwex. My Envirocloths are a staple in my home. I also love E-Cloth (a Norwex competitor–also microfiber products) and use those products, too.

Norwex Envirocloths & window cleaning cloths are great for windows and stainless steel, and I do prefer Norwex products for streak-free, shiny cleaning on those particular surfaces.

However, I prefer Force of Nature for almost every other type of cleaning. When it comes to disinfecting, Force of Nature is my go-to, hands down.

Not to be gross, but my 4-year-old woke up in the middle of the night and threw up on his carpet. Do you really think I’m going to use my Envirocloth to clean that up?

Instead, I removed what I could from the carpet and then dumped my Force of Nature solution all over it. This ensured I killed what I could of the germs without bleaching or damaging the carpet at all.

Also, while studies show microfiber does do a great job of removing germs from surfaces, I don’t think the self-sanitizing Baclock agent is all it is cracked up to be. Even when I do my best to rinse my cloths out well and hang dry, they still develop an odor, which is an indication that bacteria is still in the towel.

At the end of the day, there is a place for both products in the home. I love using Force of Nature for most cleaning jobs and then using my Envirocloth when I need to shine something up.

If you wanted to only have one in your home, I would go with Force of Nature. It covers almost every possible job, and there are other ways you can shine up appliances or windows. Even just wiping those surfaces down with a clean, dry cloth after cleaning with Force of Nature will help with the shine.

Why I Use Force of Nature

force-of-nature-cleanerFinding good natural cleaners for home use isn’t always easy. I have many green brands of cleaners that I love to use, so why did I end up moving to Force of Nature over those other green cleaners?

First of all, while those brands of cleaners were healthier choices than many of the typical leading brands, they weren’t perfect.

Many of them still have ingredients that could cause issues for some people. They were good enough for me at that time, but not perfect enough to stop my search for the best home cleaning solution.

Another reason I moved into using Force of Nature was that many of my favorite green cleaners weren’t recommended on porous surfaces. I loved that I could use this cleaner on literally anything I wanted to.

This leads to my third reason for moving to this cleaner; I could use it on my cutting boards or other areas I deal with food. I wouldn’t dream of spraying any of my other green cleaners on something my food might touch…they may be healthier, but they’re not food safe.

I’m not saying you should spray the Force of Nature solution all over your food just for fun, but there is no need to worry about it getting on your food after using it on your food prep areas.

Another motivation for buying this was to use it on mold. Our shower has areas prone to mold, as do our 30-year-old wooden window frames in our home. Given that mold isn’t healthy for anyone, but especially because I have a child with asthma, I need to keep on top of that. I love that I now have a safe way to do that that doesn’t fill our home with toxic fumes.

I don’t use Force of Nature for EVERY job because I still prefer my microfiber cloths for some things (stainless steel) and I don’t think we need to kill 100{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} of all bacteria all the time, but clearly, there are times when sanitizing is important. The fact that it can do so many jobs that I didn’t have a way to do with a natural cleaner before is awesome.
