A brand new stash of cloth diapers can be a costly investment upfront, especially if you’re not super well-informed about all of the different styles, brands, and other options out there. Many people spend anywhere from $500 to $1000 or more to build their stash, but you can do it much cheaper and still get good quality items. Here is a stash of 30 diapers plus accessories for less than $250!

What Do You Need In A Full Stash?

This stash will include:

  • 30 diaper changes
  • 30 cloth wipes
  • Dirty Diaper Storage Options & Wet Bags
  • Other Accessories

Of course, you can save even more money by cutting the number of changes down to 24-25, but I like 30 because I feel it is a really comfortable number to have. It’s an amount that doesn’t include extra money spent in excess diapers, but it has enough that you won’t wreak havoc if your regularly scheduled load of laundry gets put off a day.

Diapers

You have a few options you could go within this area. The cheapest option is flats, and you can read more about those in my Cloth Diaper Stash Under $160 post. Because the budget is a little higher in this post, I am going to suggest pocket diapers.

Here’s why:

  • Pockets are a one-size option that allows you to streamline your stash contents. You won’t need to buy several different sizes of prefolds or inserts.
  • There are many affordable brands of pockets that are still good quality.
  • If your child outgrows the absorbency of the inserts that come with your pockets, you can easily swap the insert for a different one or add a booster.

Pocket shells range in price quite drastically. To stay under $250, here are some great brands you can choose from.

  • Alva Baby Cloth Diapers

    • To get the price I’m quoting below, you have to go with the color set I linked. The different color sets are different prices, and this one is the cheapest.

  • Kawaii Pocket Diapers
    • Linked above is a 12-pack of Kawaii. Two 12-packs= $146
    • Add this 6-pack of Kawaii Goodnight Heavy Wetters to get 30 changes (great for times you need extra absorbency!) for $40
    • Total Cost= $186

Cloth Wipes

Cloth wipes are awesome! I highly recommend using them even if you aren’t trying to save the most money possible. They just work so much better.

Two packs of Buttons Flannel Wipes would give you 30 wipes for $18.

Dirty Diaper Storage

Two-pack of Wegreeco Hanging Wet Bags for $19.

When you’re out and about, you can simply use a plastic grocery bag. It works just as well and is free! But if you have room in your budget, here is a two-pack of Alva wet bags for $10.

Boosters

The inserts that come standard with your diapers will work for a while, but eventually, you may find you want more absorbency. Here are some options to use either as standalone inserts or in addition to the microfiber inserts.

  • 24-pack of Utopia Flour Sack Towels– $27
    • Flour Sack towels work on their own as inserts for most kids, or you can wrap them around the microfiber insert when you need double absorbency.

Total Cost of Your Diaper Stash

I gave a few different options for the diapers you could use in this plan, but here is an example of the cost of a final stash based on the following choices.

  • 30 Kawaii Pocket Diapers = $186
  • 30 cloth wipes = $18
  • 2 Hanging Wetbags = $19
  • 24-Flour Sack Towels for additional absorbency = $27

Total Cost: $250!!!

I believe the diaper options I have listed here are great choices for a family looking to spend less than $250 on their entire diaper stash. It doesn’t mean that these are the only options in the world for this price point, but these are some options that are generally likable by most people.
