Modern cloth diapers have come a long way from the prefolds/flats with rubber pants. While diapering with prefolds & flats is still an option, more cloth diapering families are opting for modern styles of cloth diapers. Smart Bottoms diapers are a highly popular choice for families today.

What makes Smart Bottoms so popular? This diaper is easy-to-use, organic, and manufactured 100{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} in the USA. Smart Bottoms diapers are high-quality diapers that lasts for several years and more than one child. They are practical and can simplify cloth diapering for busy families.

While Smart Bottoms has a number of cloth diapering-related products on the market, it is best known for it’s all-in-one style diapers. So what kinds of diapers does Smart Bottoms offer? Let’s dig in!

Smart Bottoms Born Smart 2.0 Organic Newborn Diaper

Cloth diapering your newborn baby can be a challenge for many people. Diapering a 6-8 lb brand new infant poses some unique challenges that you don’t face with babies that are at least a few months old. Smart Bottoms has a solution for this!

smart-bottom-diapers-newborn-2.0The Born Smart 2.0 newborn diaper is meant for babies 6 to 16 lbs. This diaper was recently improved just this year (2018), hence the “2.0”. It is an organic all-in-one, meaning it is quick and easy to put on, which is essential for those early newborn days.

The Born Smart 2.0s come in a number of beautiful colors & prints.

This diaper features an umbilical notch, which is essential in a newborn diaper to prevent the diaper from rubbing on and irritating the umbilical stump. It also has two-tab snaps to make getting an accurate and snug fit easier. The attached soaker is 55{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} hemp and 45{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} organic cotton and requires no prepping, which is huge when you’re changing diapers every hour in a sleep-deprived state in those early days!

This diaper had two different rise levels that you can snap the diaper to. This isn’t always a feature in newborn diapers, so that’s a perk. Because of this feature, you can get the diaper small enough for a 6 lb baby, but also adjust it as the baby gets a little bigger, but still isn’t quite ready for one-size diapers.

This diaper is a great option for those families that really want to cloth diaper during the newborn days. The only con is the price, which I believe is a bit steep at almost $20 for one diaper. That is a pretty normal price for one-size diapers, but for a newborn diaper that will only get used for a few months, it’s a bit high.

This price is worth it if you are committed to cloth diapering right from the get-go, want something easier than other newborn options (like prefolds), and are committed to organic, American-made products.

Smart Bottoms Smart One 3.1

smart-bottoms-diapers-smart-one-3.1The Smart One Organic All-in-One 3.1 is probably the most popular diaper Smart Bottoms sells. The inner part of the diaper is 100{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} organic cotton and the outer part of the diaper is 100{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} PUL. This diaper offers 10 absorbent layers altogether, but is still a trim design to help baby fit in his pants! 😉

This one-size diaper has four rise settings, allowing you to get an even more precise fit than many other brands of diapers. It also has the ability to fold the insert in areas where you need more absorbency to bulk it up even more (often the front of the diaper for boys and the back of the diaper for girls). Its design also allows for a quicker dry time than most other all-in-ones made from organic materials. This diaper dries in just one dry cycle. If you’re not familiar with all-in-one dry times, that might not seem impressive. But if you have been struggling to get other organic all-in-ones to dry in a reasonable amount of time, you will LOVE the Smart Bottoms Smart One 3.1.

The Smart One 3.1s come in a wide variety of unique and adorable prints.

My favorite detail on this diaper is the wide elastic on the leg holes. This lessens the chances of red marks and is likely more comfortable for the baby.

Price wise, this diaper is a little higher than average at about $29 (at the time of this post). However, considering it is manufactured in the USA and its inner part is 100{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} organic cotton, this is definitely a reasonable price. You are paying for quality and ethical manufacturing.

Smart Bottoms Dream Diaper 2.0

smart-bottoms-diapers-dream-diaper-2.0The Dream Diaper 2.0 is Smart Bottom’s first no-prep all-in-one diaper. This one-size diaper is build for max absorbency, making it the perfect option for heavy wetters. The body of the diaper is made from three layers of organic cotton and hemp jersey. The attached soaker has four layers, and the diaper comes with a pocket opening in which a family could add extra inserts if necessary.

This diaper fits babies from 10 lbs all the way to 35+ lbs.

The Dream Diaper 2.0 has also recently undergone some improvements. See what they improved in this video:

As for price, this diaper is a more expensive option at about $31 (at the time of this post). However, you have to remember you are paying for high-quality, American-made (as opposed to cheap Chinese manufacturing), organic product. This diaper costs a little more than Smart One 3.1 because it has 30{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9} more absorbency. It is a higher price tag, but knowing how ethically-made this diaper is, it’s a price worth paying.

Even with a stash of Smart Bottoms, you will still come out spending less in the end than most disposable diaper choices, especially when you compare it to a natural or organic brand of disposable diaper.

My Experience

smart-bottoms-diapersSmart Bottoms diapers are truly a high-quality diaper. I have used the Dream Diaper 2.0 and the 3.1 Smart One diaper.

They both have a similar fit. The snaps close very easily and I can get a good stretch in the tabs to get a snug, yet comfortable fit on my son.

The elastic is awesome! These diapers have the most comfortable and unobtrusive elastic over any other diaper brand I have tried.

The outer layer is so soft and smooth, and you can see the quality craftsmanship in almost every detail. They also have a much trimmer fit than many other brands of diapers.

The Best Place to Purchase

Throughout this article, I have linked to Nicki’s Diapers. Nicki’s Diapers is a business I have been ordering diapers from for the last five years. They have frequent free shipping offers (or free shipping over a certain amount, usually an amount that is easily met with one or two items), awesome sales on popular brands, and a wide variety of products. Their customer service is friendly and helpful.

The Smart Bottom diapers are priced the same across all major diaper retailers. Amazon does sell some Smart Bottoms products, so it can be a convenient place to get it if you wish. Click here to see what Smart Bottoms products Amazon offers. However, Amazon doesn’t have as wide of a variety of prints and colors, so you may wish to look at specific cloth diaper websites for a better selection (and to support a smaller business!)
