BumGenius is a very popular brand of cloth diaper. They have a few styles to choose from– a hybrid system called Flips, a pocket style called the 5.0, and two types of all-in-one: Freetimes and Elementals. They also have newborn sized all-in-ones called Littles 2.0. Almost everyone that chooses to purchase BumGenius diapers is very happy with them.

BumGenius has a reputation among people new to cloth diapering of being a little expensive. However, when you compare their prices to other brands of similar styled diapers, they are actually one of the more economical brands (unless you choose a brand manufactured in China).

Knowing that BumGenius is one of the more economical American-made brands of cloth diapers may help you make the purchase, but maybe you’re still wondering if there is anyway you could save a few bucks. Maybe you decide to wait for sales or coupon codes.

Buy Used

One way to save on BumGenius is to buy used. It really isn’t disgusting to buy used diapers as long as the person you are buying from has taken good care of them. If they were taken care of, you could get a bunch of diapers for a fabulous price from someone that is out of the diaper stage and looking to get rid of their stash. You can check out some buy/sell/trade groups on Facebook, or even look on eBay. See this post for more tips on properly buying used diapers.

If you are not into buying used or can’t find any that you feel comfortable purchasing, keep reading for more tips on saving money on these diapers brand new.

Sales of BumGenius Diapers

sales-on-bumgeniusUnfortunately, sales on BumGenius are not very common. I’m not saying they never happen, but they used to be a lot more common about 5+ years ago, and not so common in recent years.

Your best chance of finding a sale on BumGenius diapers is Black Friday/Cyber Monday. However, some cloth diaper retailers will hold sales occasionally where you can save a few bucks. Check out Nicki’s Diapers or Sweet Bottoms Baby.

Sales are awesome, but I find that sales never save more than a couple bucks per diaper. I think there are better ways to save on these awesome diapers, so keep reading!

Gift Registeries

bumgenius-giftsIf you will be having a baby shower, make sure you create a registry with either Buy Buy Baby, Target, or Amazon. All three of these stores will have BumGenius diapers you can add to your registry. What better way to get cloth diapers than as a gift? 🙂 That’s not just discounted, that’s free!

Buy Buy Baby sells them in store and online, which makes them super convenient to purchase. Target typically only sells them online, but Red Card members can get free shipping (or there is typically free shipping if you spend a certain amount as well) and save 5{9994046f29331ee04cc0b5e07eb28364315ea03ccc2f01b5a43e8b85b372d1e9}. That’s always fun!

I personally prefer Buy Buy Baby or Target, because at the time of this post BumGenius are not on Prime, which may deter some people from purchasing them by having to pay for separate shipping. However, if this is the only baby registry that makes sense for you to have, I’d definitely still throw them on there!

My Number One Tip for Saving the Most on BumGenius

The ideas above can help you do anything from save a couple bucks on a diaper to get it for free as a gift. However, I’m guessing you’ll want to save more than a couple bucks when you purchase your own, and the odds of you receiving a full stash of diapers as a gift are probably slim, and you will need to purchase some regardless.

This tip is how I purchased the bulk of my brand new BumGenius cloth diapers.

BumGenius 5.0 is about $20. If you go to Buy Buy Baby’s website, you will see this message:

So…do it! Sign up for the email list!

The next thing you will want to do is sign up for their mobile coupons. I found this in their FAQ section. Follow this get signed up:

You can also get paper coupons. I think the best way to make sure you get paper coupons mailed to your house is to make sure you put your address in when you sign up for the mailing list.

The next step is to check the internet for coupons and promo codes.

buy-buy-baby-promo-codesHere is what a quick google search yielded for me. There are a ton of promo codes out there!

Start collecting coupons and promo codes. You can only apply one to each diaper, but for the average cost of the diapers (basing this on the 5.0 and Freetime–it will be different for other styles), that will save you $4 per diaper, bringing your total cost down to about $16 per diaper. $4 may not seem like the big discount you’re hoping for, but like I said earlier, sales on BumGenius aren’t as common as they used to be. The only time you might be able to beat the $4 discount is possibly Black Friday.

If you were to buy a full stash of BumGenius cloth diapers, about 20 diapers, this would save you $80— that’s not chump change! That would make your full stash about $320, which is actually a fabulous price for a full stash of a quality, American-made diapers. Remember this stash will last you from birth to potty training…for multiple kids! Disposable diapers would cost $1200-$1500 depending on the brand…and this is per kid from birth to potty training. Clearly, getting some BumGenius diapers is not only the more eco-friendly choice, it is the more economical choice.

One final tip regarding Buy Buy Baby: It used to be that Buy Buy Baby would accept Bed Bath & Beyond coupons because they are part of the same company. As I was searching Buy Buy Baby’s website today, I saw that they said they won’t accept those coupons across sites anymore. Keywords are across sites—it didn’t say anything about in store. I would still try a Bed Bath and Beyond coupon in store if you are able. I have no idea if they will take it, but they did use to, so it’s worth a try!

Note: While I do my best to keep my posts updated with current prices and trends, I do not dictate prices and retailers may change them (or their coupon policies) at any time.

Get Started on Your Savings!

BumGenius is a popular cloth diaper, and for good reason! They are quality diapers that hold up well. In my experience, I have been able to use them for multiple kids and I’m glad I sprung for them, and I’m even more glad I found a way to save a few bucks!
